Home is where the heart is

When you truly become passionate about something, you often pour your heart into making it “work”. Most people truly believe that their home is their most valuable asset.

With that in mind, why not take great consideration as to your home’s health? Finding time to invest in your home can go a long way in helping it remain viable and in good working order. Common repairs around the house can lead to energy savings and less frequent maintenance.Upgrades to appliances can help them work more efficiently. Proper disposal of waste and common byproducts can help reduce the impact on landfills.

Invest in your home, and it will reward you. Focus on the products in your home, and address those “problem” areas. Do your homework to help in making purchasing decisions. Buy products that are made from recycled materials, advocate the furtherance of green living and support those organizations / companies that do the same.

How to make an impact on your home’s utility bills

A few quick, and simple tips, to help save money while promoting green living ideology:

  • Whenever possible, recycle paper, plastic and glass waste
  • When moving, considering having a yard sale instead of throwing away unwanted items; this helps reduce the impact on landfills
  • By in bulk whenever possible
  • Find ways to reduce the amount of paper you use (sign up for e-billing, don’t print unnecessarily, send e-cards instead of paper cards, read newspapers/magazines online)
  • Install energy efficient products throughout the house (halogen light bulbs, Energy Star appliances, etc.)
  • When seeking your next business location, seek a LEED certified building

If we all do our part, however small each part may be, we can collectively have a large impact on our environment.
